sweater vests

These aren’t your grandma’s old sweater vests with seasonal pictures sewn on. This season’s sweater vests are elevated for a classic look. While it does remind me of Clueless, I have to say I’m here for it! I feel like the sweater vest can be super versatile and a piece that can be worn now through winter.

How To Style A Sweater Vest

You can style them on their own with high rise jeans to transition between seasons. Then once the temps drop, layer over a long sleeve top or dress. For a professional look, layer over a white button down and pair with classic black pants. If you want to embrace the trend with a more feminine flare, they even make dress versions you can layer over a long sleeve basic or white button down.

puffy bags

These can range from small to large, but the puffy bag has officially made its way onto the arms of thousands of women this season. I personally love the large quilted puffy bags because they are lightweight, durable and perfect for travel. They also make a great diaper bag option as well. As far as the smaller puffy bags, I’m seeing these mostly in shoulder and cross body form. I personally, love the look of a small quilted cross body, no matter what time of year it is.

How To Style Puffy Bags

Grab your larger puffy bag for a travel day or when you are out running errands and might need to tote around things for you and the kids. The smaller version of the puffy bag is perfect for a fall wedding, or a date night. This is the perfect addition to any outfit for a slightly more elevated look!

Tailoring

Think Gossip Girl, yes please! This trend is pairing with other big trends of the season to give an overall “school girl” look. If you don’t want to go full on into this trend, you can break up the pieces to make it more wearable. Whether that’s pairing a pleated skirt with a tucked in sweater, or embracing a tailored blazer with on trend mom jeans. Whatever your personal style may be, I think this is one of the easier trends to incorporate into your fall wardrobe.

How to make it more feminine: If your style leans more feminine, you can still rock this trend by pairing it with a skirt or going with a more on trend version – a cropped blazer. This will show off your figure a bit more than the oversized blazer trend we’ve been seeing, and I think this will be a fresh new way to way blazers in the future. You can style it with higher rise bottoms and a tucked in top to avoid showing your midriff.

How to make it more comfortable: carry over your elevated lounge pants from 2020 and pair with with a fitted bodysuit and blazer over top. When in doubt, add layers to give it an elevated look.

western boots

Living in the South, cowboy boots are always around, but it’s always fun seeing them make their way onto our Northern friends. While it brings me back to the early Taylor Swift days wearing dresses with cowgirl boots, I think when done right this trend can be so cute. I personally would only wear these to a country concert, but when paired with denim shorts a floral dress, cowboy boots are right on trend.

How to style Western Boots

Wear your western inspired boots with a floral fall dress, or make the look more casual by pairing it with leggings and an oversized shacket. If you’re not sure you’re ready for a full on western boot, there are also plenty of options that have a similar silhouette that lean a little dressier, like these!

split hem pants

This trend may be a little more short lived, but I think it’s a fun new style we haven’t seen over and over. I’m not sure how I feel about the flare split hem pants, but the straight cigarette style pant is calling my name! I think it’s most flattering when the length is slightly longer than ankle length versus the more cropped style pant.

How To Style Split Hem Pants

Depending on which style split hem pants you end up going with, you can either style them dressed up or casually. The straight, cropped split hem pants would be perfect with a classic blouse and pointed toe pumps for a on trend work wear look.

shirt jacket

This trend, also know as a “shacket” is back and bigger than ever this upcoming season. It just be one of falls biggest fashion trends to date. I was just watching an old episode of Friends and saw them rocking the shacket and it felt very full circle if you know what I mean. I was hesitant at first, but I have to say, this one is growing on me! I styled a neutral shacket 4 ways over on Instagram here.

How to Style A Shacket:

I love the way they look layered over a bodysuit and skirt. You can also pair it with faux leather leggings and a long sleeve tee. Pair with booties and a fall hat for the perfect apple picking look. Another way to style the shirt jacket is to layer it over a dress. I prefer a bodycon style or sweater dress for a more balanced look.

90s Aesthetic

It’s not necessarily my style, but the 90’s are back. So many of the above trends fall into this 90’s category. But more than anything I think of bucket hats, sweater sets, cropped tees, straight leg jeans and slip dresses. Add a chunky shoe and a choker necklace and we are in full on flash back mode. While I may not be embracing this trend to it’s fullest, I’ve seen a few super cute 90’s inspired pieces floating around this season!

How To Style the 90’s Aesthetic

I personally gravitate more towards the Rachel on Friends version of the 90’s with crisp white button downs, above the knee skirts and classic lines. Add a white sneaker and we’re in business!
