I’m so excited to be gearing up for my favorite sale of the year. I start planning ahead for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale months in advance by saving up and cashing in some of my credit card points for Nordstrom gift cards. I shared all the information I know about this years Anniversary sale here, and I will continue to update this page as more information comes available. It’s linked at the top of this webpage if you want to reference it easily! If you’re wondering when to mark your calendar, the sale starts for cardholders on July 12th and it’s open to everyone starting on July 19th!
In this post, you will find all of my tips and tricks for shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.
If you really want to get the items on your wishlist, you need to shop early. Cardholders shop the sale one week before the sale goes live to the public. And if I’m being honest, the hot sellers always sell out the first day of early access. The last two years these items haven’t restocked like they have in years past when the sale goes live to the public.
I say this not to pressure you into getting a credit card or anything like that! That is of course a personal decision and you need to be financially responsible with it 🙂 I myself got a Nordstrom credit card years ago just to shop this sale.
I kind of cringe I’m saying this, but this is the only sale I actually shop impulsively. If I think I want something.. I buy it and decide later because things in this sale sell out like it’s free Louis Vuitton. This sale weirdly feels competitive to shop but it’s also a fun shopping hunt!
On that note, I wanted to share this disclaimer from last years post:
I always overbuy during this sale then I decide what to keep and what to return. I’ve learned the hard way if I wait to decide what I really want, items I want always sell out. I don’t want you to see these large hauls on YouTube and thousands of dollars in outfit posts on Instagram and feel less than because you can’t afford it all. A lot of bloggers buy a ton of pieces from the sale to shoot outfits and try on hauls for their content but will end up returning what they don’t actually want. Plus, it’s technically our job to shop and share the best with you, so I like to try a range of items. Don’t put yourself in financial trouble to keep up with the Instagram hustle! Look at your closet and see what pieces you’ll get the most wear out of. For me, that is always basics – plain tees, cardigans, booties, flats I can wear to work or on the weekend, and a good pair of jeans. I also save up all my gift cards from the year (birthday, credit card or work reward points, etc) and Nordstrom Notes for this sale specifically because I invest the most on my Fall wardrobe. The sale will be back again next year, so save up for what you didn’t get this go round – xoxo
Budget for basics
I always opt for investment basics during the sale. Some things always included in the sale that I would recommend include:
Barefoot Dreams anything | AG, Paige, or Madewell Jeans | BP & Halogen Cardigans | Boots/ Booties | A fall coat | Hanky Panky
Shop for things you will get the most wear of. There are also great beauty buys, but honestly I’m not as tempted to spend in that category because it usually includes items that are in deluxe sizes and the prices are higher. Unless it’s something I’ve already used and love.. I pass. But I do always buy this eyelash serum in the sale every year.
Be patient – the site always has technical issues
Every year the Nordstrom site crashes and there are issues with placing orders. It’s frustrating, but just expect it! Nordstrom makes up for it offering 10x the points on purchases for that day. On that same note, inventory sells out quicker than the site updates, so know items in your order aren’t guaranteed until the order ships. I’ve learned this the hard way the last two years. I just want to give you the heads up so you’re ready!
Use your points
Speaking of Nordstrom Rewards, definitely use your double/triple points day when placing your order. In the event they offer 10x the points (which ahem.. has happened the last 2 years), they will re-credit your triple points day back.
Shop online or in store?
FIRST, stop by here to see my top picks and place your must haves/initial order online. Online has the best selection (aka everything) and the store gets messy quick and they can’t carry everything. I would avoid doing in store pickup during the busiest times of the sale (the weekend of early access and public access). Other than those weekends it’s probably safe to choose that option! I’ve learned the last two years that hot ticket items sell out before an associate can locate it to set aside for pickup. Plus, the store gets in such a mess that they may not be able to find it! In-store pick up is one of my favorite ways to shop, just not during the first weekend of the sale.
Then it’s always fun to shop your local store after you locked in your must haves. I visit on multiple occasions because I usually find different things each time.
EDIT!! Just in from Nordstrom:
$10 Bonus Note – Cardmembers receive a $10 bonus note when they buy online and pick up in store 7/12-7/14
Prep your shopping list
Go through your closet before the sale to get an idea on what your closet is missing. Write them down so you know what areas of your wardrobe you want to focus on. I’ll be sharing my first impressions/recommendations the day the sale goes live on the 12th, a try on haul sometime that weekend, and more fun surprises throughout the sale. This year, I’m budgeting for a new pair of skinny jeans, new work flats, maybe a new bag, and basic cardigans.
You can get a sneak peek of this years Anniversary Sale here!
My favorite brand I shop every year in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale:
- Barefoot Dreams
Buy your must have’s first, browse second
I place multiple orders during the sale because I don’t want to be browsing only to find my #1 item sold out. As soon as the sale goes live, I search for the items I’m looking for and checkout with those right away. I also recommend to have your card saved in your account for the quickest checkout. Nordstrom always offers free shipping and returns.. so you don’t have to worry about having an order minimum! The sale includes so many items it’s hard to go through it all. I’ll do that for you and share the best of the sale here on the 12th!
Utilize the LIKEtoKNOW.it app
You can follow me in the LIKEtoKNOW.it app where I’ll post items leading up to the sale. You can save items to your wishlist by “hearting” them so they’re easy for you to find. I’ll also be posting my outfits in there first thing from the dressing r00m, so it’s the best place to find my NSALE looks first. I already shared a sneak peek here in the app!
You can browse my 2018 Nordstrom Anniversary sale posts to get an idea of what to expect this year. I also did a post on overhyped items and items I thought were worth the hype, which y’all loved! I’ll be doing another post like that this year as well. You can see my NSALE try on haul here to see what I bought/returned last year (the video is at the end).

I hope that helps you get ready for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale 2019! What is on the top of your wishlist?
