One of my favorite transitional pieces for spring is a classic jean jacket. A jean jacket is truly a wardrobe staple item, just like denim itself! Although the trends and styles of jean jackets can change from season to season, they never stray too far away from the traditional blue denim jacket look you know and love. For that reason, I love to have a quality jean jacket or two in my closet.
Not only are jean jackets a closet staple, but you can wear them all year long! I love to invest in pieces that I can get a ton of wear out of. I prefer to wear my go-to denim jacket as a light layer in the spring and fall. It’s easy to throw on with any outfit and run out the door. I also pack it with me anytime I travel! I recently brought it with me on my trip to Cabo! It was perfect for breezy mornings and cool night after the sun went down.
What To Wear With A Jean Jacket
Jean jackets are a great closet staple because they are durable, they typically get softer and more comfortable the more you wash and wear them, and they go with countless pieces you already own. They go with dresses, skirts, and even joggers! You can wear one with almost anything, making this a super versatile piece to last you several seasons to come. Today I’m excited to share a round-up of items that pair perfectly with jean jackets to give you endless outfit ideas for spring.
One of the easiest style tips I can give for what to wear is a jean jacket, which is to pair with other non-denim pieces. The last thing you want to do is resemble Brittney Spears and Justin Timberlake’s all-denim ensembles, circa 2001. You know the one. Pairing your denim jacket with non-denim pieces will create interest in your looks!
5 Jean Jacket Outfits
Spring Top and Shorts
Denim jackets go so well with bright spring colors, especially light-washed denim jackets. I love the way the light wash balances out the bright colors in this floral top and the high-waisted white shorts in this look. These pieces would also work well with white jeans. They’re also perfect for spring if you want to wear shorts while still covering your arms for the breeze. Top it off with spring sandals and statement earrings!
If you’re on the hunt for the perfect vacation outfit to pack for your next warm-weather getaway, I highly recommend this look. Pack a few extra tops, and you can easily style these high-waisted shorts with other pieces to create endless looks.
Maxi Dress and Sandals
A denim jacket outfit allows you to add a layer to a spring outfit with ease. Although a jacket would cover the bows on the shoulders of this dress, a denim jacket serves as the perfect layer if you plan on transitioning the look into the evening, or if you’ll be somewhere that you know might get chilly. I personally like the idea of adding a dark wash jacket or an oversized jean jacket to an outfit that includes a dress. Add simple earrings and sandals, and you’re ready for the day ahead.
Another option is to drape the denim jacket over your shoulders with the sleeves hanging down, similar to the way women drape cardigans over their shoulders. This look is very on-trend this season. It also adds interest to your look and allows you to carry your jacket with you during the day, without having to actually hold it.
Wide Leg Pants
Whether you’re traveling or out running errands, pairing a denim jacket with wide-leg pants and a white tee or bodysuit is the ultimate comfortable but still put-together look. This same concept would work well with a maxi skirt, too. I would certainly wear this outfit while traveling to stay comfortable, especially because if you’re headed somewhere tropical you could style these pants another way! Simply layer them over a swimsuit for an easy coverup. This way if you venture off the beach and into a restaurant you won’t feel underdressed.
Another style option is the swap the bodysuit with a graphic tee and trade the sandals for sneakers. This is an easy way to take this look from spring and summer into fall and winter! It’s also a great option if you’re going to be exploring a new city, and your day will involve a good amount of walking. Comfort is going to be key in this scenario, so sneakers will be a must!
Leggings and Sneakers
If you’re headed to a workout but need to run errands afterward, grab your denim jacket on the way out the door. This is the perfect layer to take your look from the gym to post-workout lunch plans with your besties. Simply throw your favorite denim jacket on with your leggings, workout top, and sneakers. This is another look I would travel in as well. If you have a long flight or drive ahead of you, this outfit will serve you well in terms of comfort!
Mini Dress and Wedges
This look is perfect for heading out to brunch on a Sunday morning. If you need a layer to go with your long sleeve mini dress, consider adding a denim jacket as the perfect finishing piece! This might be one of the easiest ways to style a jean jacket. The overall look can be dressed up with statement earrings, wedges, and a clutch purse. Especially if your mini dress is a floral print, your jean jacket can add balance to the outfit.
If you’re wanting to style this dress more casually, swap the espadrille wedges for white sneakers and ditch the statement earrings. This is an easy way to take this dress from work to the weekend! You can also add a baseball hat or straw hat for a casual spring look.
I also love to pair my go-to denim jacket with midi dresses and maxi dresses throughout spring and summer. Oftentimes, restaurants and other indoor places can have the a/c blasting. A jean jacket allows me to still look chic and put-together without having to shiver the entire evening.
