Cream coats are a great staple to add a little brightness to your winter wardrobe. Last week, I was saying how I stuck out in the sea of black coats when I was in New York last week. As you’ve probably realized, I don’t wear a ton of black, and stick to mostly light colors like cream, blush, white and taupe – even throughout the winter. Today, I’m sharing practical tips on how to wear a cream coat and a variety of outfit ideas to wear a cream coat with.

How to Wear a Cream Coat

Cream coats are easy to style because of their neutral color and versatility. However, some say that white or cream coats are intimidating to wear because of their light color. However, what I love about the bright colors of creams and whites the most is that they effortlessly look more elegant and expensive.

Additionally, if you’re drawn to more bright, neutral colors like me, a cream coat is easier to style than a darker color. Below are some of my favorite tips to make styling a cream coat easy.

Create a Monochromatic Look

My favorite way to style a cream coat is to create a monochromatic look. These leggings by MM LaFleur go well with my quilted and sherpa coat from Loft. You can easily layer a cream or white shirt underneath. Complete the look with snow boats or white ankle boots.

Pair with Other Neutral Colors

If you don’t want to do a monochromatic look, another great way to wear a cream coat is to pair with other neutral colors. If you enjoy wearing black, you can pair black jeans or black leggings with your coat. Many wool and puffer coats come down to the knee, which are perfect to wear with leggings.

Chocolate brown is another beautiful color to pair with cream. You can wear a brown turtleneck with denim jeans for a casual look to run errands in.

Incorporate Texture

Your cream coat doesn’t have to be wool or polyester. A fun way to add texture to your look is to wear a faux fur coat. It looks beautiful paired with dresses, skirts and trousers. A cropped faux fur coat is an on-trend silhouette, perfect to wear on your next date night or holiday party.

Wear with Patterns

To add more dimension and a pop of print to your look, you can wear a fun pattern underneath your coat. Cream trench coats are great to wear throughout the spring. A floral pattern is a perfect print to wear during this time of year. You can incorporate it into your pants, skirts or with a top.

During the holiday season, wear plaid trousers to add some festive vibes to your outfit. You can also wear a plaid dress or top for a less dramatic pop of print.

Monochromatic Cream Look with Winter Boots

This outfit was what I was referring to when I said I didn’t see a lot of cream or light colors being worn in New York. This outfit just makes me happy, and love pairing my Burberry scarf with several looks throughout the winter. It’s really functional too because it’s cashmere, giving you the warmth you need during the cold months. This scarf easily completes looks and gives a pop of pattern. I’d say this is one of my most worn designer pieces.

This coat has been a bit hit since I first wore it in IG stories a few weeks back. It’s a fun mix of quilted material and sherpa. The length elongates you and gives you that extra coverage to pair with leggings.

If your kiddos have a Christmas program coming up, I’d highly recommend this whole look. The sweater dress is comfortable, and not overly dressy. It’s the perfect mix of sophisticated and understated. I completed the look with my wool-blend wrap coat and pumps.

Cream Trench Coat Styled Two Ways

This trench coat was featured in my Amazon capsule wardrobe collection for the fall. It’s a great affordable find to wear throughout the spring and early fall. In the first look, I paired it with black leggings and my favorite work loafers. It’s a great look for a Saturday to wear while running errands or to grab coffee with a friend in. It’s an effortless street-style look.

The second look is a beautiful monochromatic outfit, featuring one of my favorite sweater dresses. It’s super flattering, and love that it fits close to the body, but not completely bodycon either. I paired it with knee-high boots to give my legs the extra coverage without having to wear tights.

There are a few different styles of coats that are nice to have in your wardrobe: a puffer, wool coat and a trench coat. This puffer coat is a great option for your more casual looks. If you’re headed to the gym or just want to dress in an athleisure look, these Spanx Booty Boost leggings are a favorite of mine. Then, you can pair a long sleeve pink or white tee. I accessorized with a pretty pearl headband to cover up my ears during those more chilly days.

The beautiful light color looks classic and elegant against the darker colors of the denim jeans and faux leather leggings. Dress the look up a bit with ankle boots or dress it down with Ugg boots.

Like I mentioned in my tips above about how to wear a cream coat, a faux fur cream coat is a fun alternative to a wool or polyester material. It looks super lux and high-end when you wear it, and perfect for those dressier occasions. I paired it with this satin mauve skirt and a bodysuit. Then, I finished the look with knee-high boots. This would make a fun girls-night-out look. If it’s chilly, you can always add tights to give your legs more coverage.

These beautiful chocolate boots really pop against the cream coat. With this outfit, I styled a pleated mini skirt with tights under the cream wrap coat. The brown turtleneck also peeks out at the top, giving the outfit a bit of color variation. I love what a headband does to a hairstyle. It elevates the look, and gives an on-trend vibe. This is a great look to go see a holiday show or to a dinner during the winter.
