A basic white tee is one of the most reliable staple items in everybody’s closet. It’s the old faithful of your wardrobe, so to speak…and for good reason. It can be worn during any season and with any accessory. White tees can be dressed up or down, are incredibly comfortable and there are unlimited ways to style and spruce them up. I’m sharing a round up of my favorite white tees, and 5+ basic white tee outfit ideas that you can take inspiration from and create an outfit that matches your own unique style.
Basic White Tee Outfit Ideas
Basic white tees come in all different lengths and cuts. Some of them include crewnecks, v-necks, scoop necks, tunics and cropped. What you’re wearing with your white tee, determines what type you’ll need.

Styled with Mom Jeans and a Ruana
This effortlessly chic look is comfortable and classic. If you’re ever stuck on what to wear for a casual look, grab a pair of high-waisted mom jeans and a white t-shirt. It will give you all the on-trend, cool-girl vibes. To elevate the look, accessorize with a felt fedora and pair with mules and ruana to complete the look. A white t-shirt with mom jeans is the perfect blank canvas to add your favorite accessories, so get creative with the season you’re in. If it’s summer, this look would be so cute with a straw hat and sandals or tuck a white tee into a pair of denim shorts and add a kimono over the top.

Paired with a Cardigan or Shacket
One of my favorite ways to wear a white tee in the fall is to pair it with a mini skirt and layer a shacket or cardigan over the top. Shackets are very on-trend this season, and I like pairing them with a more fitted bottom like this mini skirt, skinny jeans or leggings. This look is the perfect alternative to wearing jeans during the cooler months of the year. I like wearing knee-high boots with a mini skirt during the fall for more leg coverage, but you can also wear booties too.

Knotted Over a Dress
For a unique street style look, knot a white t-shirt over a dress and pair with sandals or white sneakers. A looser-fitting white t-shirt works best with this type of outfit to be able to knot the tee, and gives a dress a more casual, laid-back vibe. The knot should be at your natural waistline to be the most figure-flattering. You’ll also want to be sure the dress isn’t bulky at the top. Sleeveless or short-sleeve dresses work best. I accessorized with a straw hat, but you could also do a felt fedora. Wearing a white tee over a dress is a fun way to create another outfit out of existing pieces you have in your closet.
Worn with Leggings
A go-to outfit for lounging at home or running errands is leggings and a white tee. One of my favorite pair of leggings for loungewear are these from Nordstrom. They now also make them in maternity. I prefer to wear a white tunic-style t-shirt with leggings for better coverage. If I’m going out to run errands, I like adding a cardigan or ruana for an added layer in cooler weather. If you’re wearing a cardigan or ruana with the leggings, try knotting the t-shirt at your natural waistline to give the look more structure and put-together look. You could wear athletic sneakers, rain boots or casual sandals to complete this casual outfit.
You can easily dress leggings and tunic up too. I like wearing faux leather leggings for a dressier look but you could also wear the Zella ones if you wanted. Pair a blazer and pumps, knee-high or over-the-knee boots with the leggings for a fun date night look.
Tucked Into a Skirt
If you’re looking for the perfect girls-day-out look, try pairing a skirt with a white tee and a denim jacket. This look pairs well with white trainers, mules or sandals. So if you’re headed out for a day of shopping, wear your sneakers. Then, if you have dinner plans that night, change into a mule, wedge or strappy sandal to give it more of a night-time look.
With skirts, I recommend either knotting the t-shirt at the top of the skirt to define where your waistline is or front tuck or tuck all the way around your waist. This skirt is tiered and flowy, so it’s more of a casual look. But you could also pair a pencil skirt with a basic white tee and a blazer or cardigan for a workwear look. White t-shirts also pair well with business suits. I think a crewneck-style white tee works best under a blazer as the cut is more professional looking.
