There’s a print you’ll be seeing everywhere this fall. It has nothing to do with ghosts, pumpkins or football, and everything to do with being chic and on-trend for the season. The print you’ll be seeing everywhere is… houndstooth! A couple years ago, leopard print was all the rage. But I have to say I love the houndstooth so much better. Today I’m sharing ways you can style the print casually and more dressy. Plus I’m featuring a few looks with houndstooth too.

The Print You’ll Be Seeing Everywhere this Fall

Houndstooth is a two-color checked pattern and repeated throughout the print. If you look closely, it looks similar to a canine tooth – hence houndstooth. It doesn’t sound as glamorous as it looks, but I digress. 😉

Styling Houndstooth Casually

Houndstooth is something you can wear casually or more dressy. The print comes in several different clothing options from sweaters, handbags, shoes, skirts and pants. Like most patterns that are bold, I would suggest wearing the print in one area of your outfit, and keep everything else to a solid print. For example, I wouldn’t recommend wearing the print on your shoes, pants and handbag all in the same look. It’ll look too busy and overly done.

Ways to style casually:

• Pair a houndstooth sweater with straight jeans and flats.
• Style a longline houndstooth cardigan with black leggings and sneakers.
• Add a houndstooth blazer over a white bodysuit with black jeans.

Dressing Houndstooth Up

Dressing houndstooth up is just as fun as creating casual looks. Add this print to your workwear wardrobe rotation for a fun alternative to solid prints. Houndstooth works well for workwear because it’s super chic, yet naturally understated too. As the holidays approach, it’s also a great print to wear to holiday gatherings and parties.

Ways to style for dressy occassions:

• Style a houndstooth pencil or mini skirt with a white or black sweater and knee-high boots.
• Wear houndstooth loafers or flats with ankle pants and a white button down.
• Pair a houndstooth sheath dress with black pumps.

I styled the purse with this casual and flirting outfit with leggings and a turtleneck. Finish the look with these affordable knee-high boots. You could also pair mules with the look for a more understated shoe option.
