Before the busyness of the holidays start, I like to evaluate some of the basics in our home to see if anything needs updated. Should we replace the sheets or comforter in the guest bedroom? Do we need updated dinnerware or cutlery? All the little things you hardly have time to think about, but are nice to replace every now and then. Or maybe you want to change up some of the decor in your living room before you deck the halls from ceiling to floor for the holidays. Whatever it is, I love shopping at Walmart for our home decor and great basics. I’m sharing ideas for affordable room updates for your home.

Walmart has everything you need to make your home a warm and inviting space for your family and guests. From the kitchen to the bathrooms to the bedrooms, Walmart carries quality, on-trend products at budget-friendly prices.

Affordable Room Updates for Your Home

I recently bought a new kitchen runner from Walmart that is completely washable. I figured with a little one running around soon, it was a smart purchase! I’ve never had a washable rug before, so I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived and was super soft and flexible. Walmart has a lot of variety in colors and sizes, so I’ll link all their options for you here!

A Calming Bedroom for Your Guests

If you’re hosting family from out of town for the holidays, it’s nice to have a comfortable space for them while they’re away from home. Simple updates make such a difference to a room. For a guest bedroom, updating the bedding can completely transform a space. And you don’t have to spend a lot of money to get the quality you want. This beautiful quilt set comes in three colors, and includes one quilt and matching shams to give any bed a luxurious look and feel.

To spruce up the walls, update the wall decor throughout the room. These two blush canvases with a botanical design are simple yet elegant. They’re from the My Texas House collection. I love this collection because it has a lot of neutral pieces with a whimsical look and feel. They come in three different size combinations to fit the size of your wall. For a more neutral take and a bit of texture, these two framed canvases have a burlap material in a similar botanical print. I also own some of the rugs from her collection and they’re really easy to clean! They’re indoor/outdoor and you can just pressure wash them when you need to, and spot treat with Folex.

Little details make the biggest difference. Place a candle on the bedside table or add a few faux plants throughout the room for some pops of color.

Simple Updates for Easier Holiday Cooking

There’s a lot of cooking happening with all the gatherings with family and friends. Make cooking easier on yourself with updated kitchen supplies. Do your knives make chopping a chore? Maybe you need to update them or buy a sharpener. No one likes a dull knife, especially when there’s lots of chopping to do.

Another great gadget to use for fast and delicious cooking is an air fryer. And this one from Walmart is one of the chicest air fryers I’ve ever seen. You won’t mind leaving that on your counter.

For the coffee lovers of your home, be sure your coffee pot is in tip-top shape and working order. This one from the Drew Barrymore collection is beautiful and comes in four colors. You don’t want to have a big gathering for Thanksgiving and all of sudden your old coffee pot decides not to work.

A Cozy Living Room to Gather In

After the holiday meals are eaten, guests tend to shift towards the living room to relax after a big meal. Simple updates transform a room without ever rearranging furniture or using a paint brush. Throw pillows and throw blankets are easy ways to transform the look of your couch and chairs. To make your living room seem taller, try adding curtains to your windows. Place the curtain rod about 6 to 12 inches above the top of your window. You’ll be amazed at the difference.

Changing or adding a rug under your coffee table can brighten and cozy up a room. Walmart has so many amazing choices when it comes to rugs. Layer a coffee table over the rug. Then add a tray to your coffee table with some pretty home decor pieces. To put the finishing touch on your living room refresh, add some lamps to the end tables throughout your living room.
