Most consider a little black dress to be a wardrobe essential, but I always opt for the lighter variation, especially this time of year! Spring and summer are the seasons where we can break out our pretty pastels, floral patterns, and light and airy pieces. For casual events, a white maxi dress is a great option to wear throughout the spring and summer. Compared to mini and midi dresses, maxi dresses give the most laid back vibes of the three. If you’re going to a backyard BBQ, a casual Easter gathering, a winery or a bridal event, I’d recommend a maxi dress. You can layer with a denim jacket for an extra layer, if it’s cool outside.

White Midi Dresses

Midi dresses typically hit between your ankle and your knee, so there a comfortable length for walking. They’re also a great length to reach for on a windy day because you don’t have to worry about your dress flying up (I’ve learned this the hard way :). This length and the mini length would be great options to wear to a graduation. You don’t want your dress to be too long for graduation, so you don’t have a worry about tripping. That wouldn’t be fun!

When you’re deciding which dress to wear for a certain occasion, you want to look at the fabric and overall structure of the dress. Typically more forgiving and flowy fits are for more casual events, while a more fitted, bodycon, sheath or a-line is for more dressy occasions.

Now that we’re entering wedding season, I know there are a lot of brides needing white dresses for things like their showers, bachelorette parties, and rehearsal dinners. A mini dress would be perfect for those types of events. You just have to take into consideration where the event is being held and the weather. If you live in a more cool climate, a midi or maxi dress option might be a better option.
