Leather is one of my favorite fabrics to wear throughout the fall and winter. Though a real leather piece is superior in quality and built to last, it’s often too pricey for most budgets. Faux leather or sometimes referred to as vegan leather is a great alternative to the real deal, and generally more pliable and less delicate compared to real leather. I’ve talked many times about my love for faux leather leggings, but I also really love wearing faux leather skirts. They’re great for office wear or casual wear, and can give you that on-trend, sassy look at a much more budget-friendly price than real leather. I’m sharing how to wear a faux leather skirt multiple ways and create outfits for a variety of occasions.

Faux leather skirts come a variety of fits and styles – not just mini skirts. I’ve seen pencil skirts, more voluminous mini skirts, pleated styles, paper bag silhouettes and ruched mini skirts. Depending on your own personal style, I bet there’s one that you’ll love. And just like the different silhouettes, there are also a variety of colors too like black leather, brown leather or burgundy leather.

How to Style for Workwear

Faux leather skirts are great to change up your workwear looks. You can pair a sleeveless turtleneck with blazer to achieve a polished yet on-trend look. Mixing a patterned blazer with a solid-colored skirt balances the outfit and gives it a bit of interest without it looking too busy. Finish the look with knee-high boots. Boots with a pointed-toe or square-toe look more professional and dressy for the workplace. Rounded-toe boots work well for casual outfits.

For a more understated look for the office, pair a thin blouse with the skirt for an easy workwear look. Tuck the shirt into the skirt for more structure and finish the look with knee-high boots or pumps.

What I love about faux leather skirts is that they are versatile when it comes to styling them. You can dress them up like we did in the previous two looks or you can dress them down more casually like the above picture. Take a simple crewneck t-shirt and tuck it into the skirt. Another alternative is to wear a denim shirt with the skirt. You can finish the look with knee-high boots or for a even more casual look pair with low-heel booties or sneakers. Add a faux suede moto jacket or wool coat over the top of the t-shirt to complete the look, if it’s chilly outside.

How to Style for a Holiday Party

“WOW” your friends or family with this sophisticated and feminine look and wear a leather skirt to an upcoming holiday party. I paired this gorgeous white lace top with a tan mini skirt. The lace top has the most stunning detailing and comes in a few other colors. You could also do a more voluminous faux leather skirt and pair with a sequined top. I finished the look with my favorite pair of nude pumps, but you could also wear these pumps for an added touch of sparkle.

With fitted skirts, you mostly see the shirt or blouse tucked into the skirt. But I opted to keep this peplum sweatshirt untucked and think it still creates a put-together look. This top is actually a sweatshirt, but doesn’t look like – just feels like it! You’ll feel stylish and comfortable all the way through your date.

Pair an Oversized Sweater for a Casual Look

For a casual look, pair an oversized sweater with the faux leather skirt. I generally front tuck the sweater, when I’m wearing a leather skirt. You can pair a variety of shoe styles like knee-high or over-the-knee boots or you can pair with booties too. This would be a great look to wear out to lunch or to a winery on a crisp, fall day.

Layer a Cardigan or Shacket with Your Skirt

If you want a layering piece that’s a little more structured than a ruana or wrap, try layering a cardigan or shacket over a basic tunic with your leather skirt. This is a great look to take you from day to night. Just switch out your shacket or cardigan for a blazer or moto jacket. Keep the knee-high boots on or ditch them for pumps.
