I’ve carried this bag for many years now, and going to discuss the pros and cons, what I keep inside, and how it compares to the Rebecca Minkoff Mini Mac handbag. What can you fit inside the Gucci Soho Leather Disco Bag?
At first glance, this bag looks like a compact crossbody, but don’t let its size fool you. I can fit a lot more than I expected inside because of the bucket -tyle design and wrap around zipper. I fit my normal wallet, iPhone, sunglasses + case, a few makeup necessities, a mini hairbrush, pocket-planner, hand sanitizer, a pocket mirror, gum, and my keys inside with a little wiggle room left. I can also manage to fit my blogging camera inside it if I need to.
Where can I purchase the Gucci Soho Disco Bag?
I purchased this shoulder bag on somewhat of an impulse on my honeymoon in Maui. I had just received my sign on bonus, and it was the first time I could finally treat myself to a nice purchase as I had just started working as a Physical Therapist after 7 years of college. Plus, the price in Hawaii for designer items is a little better than in Georgia. I purchased mine at the Gucci Store at The Shops of Wailea for $735.
I always prefer to shop designers directly from their store versus a department store, unless you have some serious reward points to use! I like to get their bags and gift wrapping, but it’s definitely personal preference.
Shops: Gucci is the only retailer that has availability. You can also find many gently used options on sites like Farfetch and Fashionphile.
What are the color options?
The Gucci Soho Disco Bag comes in black, red, and rose beige. These are the classic colors they’ve carried from season to season. They do have seasonal colors pop up that occasionally go on sale, such as navy, metallic, light blue, and even a hot pink variation. If you hate the thought of denim transfer on your bag, consider going for the black or darker colors.
Is the strap adjustable and comfortable?
Yes! It can vary from 15 to 21 inches in length, and you can even have the Gucci store add extra holes for you if you want even more variation.
This strap is definitely comfortable on the shoulder because it’s a softer leather. I have a few shoulder bags that can get uncomfortable after a day of shopping because they’re thicker / firmer leather. I typically shorten the strap to wear it on my shoulder for date nights and lengthen it a bit to wear it crossbody when shopping or out and about.
One complaint I have about the strap is the excess strap doesn’t come with a second loop to prevent it from flapping out. Some loop it around like I’ve seen with excess belt loops, and I’ve heard some girls using double sided tape to secure it in a sleeker way. For now, I just let it flap around.
Does the bag keep its shape?
For the most part, I think the bag will maintain its shape. However, I can see one area that has already lost a little shape – the upper back area that rests along my hip. I haven’t had any issues with sagging along the bottom of the bag no matter how much I stuff it. It is a soft leather handbag that can eventually change with use, so if you prefer a more structured bag that won’t lose its shape, I recommend finding one in saffiano leather like Prada, but that’s not in my price range!
How should I store it?
When not in use, I hang mine on my clothing rack. I’m sure the tassel needs to be stored correctly to avoid bending, so keep that in mind if you’re putting it away for a little while. I would highly recommend stuffing the inside with paper and wrapping the strap inside like it was when you first purchased it. The bag comes with a pretty white silky dust bag for storage.
Is the Gucci Soho Disco Bag worth the price?
This little beauty will cost you around $1,500 if you it buy in the states. You’re definitely paying for the designer when it comes to designer bags, but their quality usually does back it up. I’ve had the bag for many years, and it still looks brand new.
The stitching is still perfect, and the zipper still opens and closes. (I will say it required two hands to zip because the leather can move around a bit). I prefer to invest in quality handbags vs quantity. I think investing in handbags is a better investment than clothing and shoes because they can be worn more often and reselling is always an option!
I picked a neutral color I know I would wear most often, and the size of the bag/cross body style is something I carry often.
How does the Gucci Soho Disco Bag Compare to Rebecca Minkoff Mini Mac?
Until I purchased this bag, I carried the Rebecca Minkoff Mini Mac crossbody for years. To compare the two, you can definitely fit more inside the Gucci Disco bag.
If you look back at what I fit inside my Gucci bag, I could not fit my mini brush, mirror, keys, and gum inside the Mini Mac bag. The opening of the RM Mini Mac is much smaller, even though the bag is about an inch longer than the Gucci bag, making it harder to get things in and out easily. I also like how the Gucci Disco will sit up on its own, and the biggest plus is how much lighter it is in comparison.
I do like the strap design much better on the RM Mini Mac – you can remove it to use as a clutch, loop it to wear it shorter, or use it standard as a crossbody.
Is there denim transfer?
Light leather bags have a tendency to denim transfer. My bag hasn’t had that issue, but I know eventually it’s inevitable because of the light color. I consciously protect it by wearing longer tops if I’m wearing jeans. If you pick a darker color, denim transfer won’t be an issue.
My tips to clean denim transfer: I used to work at the Coach store, and for denim transfer issues, we would use leather moisturizer with an old white tee shirt to buff out the denim. The sooner you tend to the issue, the better chance you have of removing it.
ALWAYS:
- Refer to the cleaning/leather description that should be included inside your bag before using products on it. Some leathers can be very delicate
- Ask an associate their methods to clean if you’re unsure
- Do a test patch on a small area before getting crazy over a big stain

Bottom line?
I think the Gucci Soho Disco Bag is great for the girl who needs a comfortable cross body bag that can fit a little extra inside than the typical cross body.
