Today I’m talking about Fall essentials. These are the 10 pieces I wear year after year during Fall and what I get the most use out of in my wardrobe each season. Some of these fall basics I’ve had in my wardrobe for years, while others I repurchase year after year. Let’s dive in!
10 Fall essentials
My most worn shoe is a comfortable, low blocked heel ankle bootie. My favorite heel height is between 2-3 inches. Any lower and it makes your foot look bigger, and any taller it’s more difficult to walk in. Here are some of my favorites!
a pop of leopard
Leopard is always a go to print for me in the Fall. I like just small touches of it in my outfits, whether that’s a belt, my shoes, or a scarf.
I wear lightweight scarves year round but especially in the beginning of Fall. As the temperatures cool down I add in thicker scarves for extra warmth. Blanket scarves can double as a poncho in your wardrobe. I shared how to wear a blanket scarf 15 ways if you’re looking for different ways to wear your scarves this season!
suede or leather handbag
I like switching to heavier materials like suede or leather once the temperature cools down. I wear more browns than blacks, so I reach for a brown leather handbag most often.
a wool or felt hat
I’m really picky when it comes to hats. I don’t want to feel like a cowboy wearing it and I don’t want it to flop down too much. I think I found the perfect hat, but here are some other options that would be worth a try. Check out this post to see how I styled the hat I mentioned in the video.
During Fall my go-to layer is cardigans. I don’t wear sweaters very much until Winter, and even then I still wear more cardigans than sweaters. Mostly because I worry about getting too warm in sweaters and I like having the option to take off a cardigan if I need to. Funny enough, I’m usually always cold, but it’s still a mental thing! I would recommend getting a black, camel, and gray cardigan for your Fall wardrobe.
long sleeve basics
Use these to layer under cardigans and ponchos. Let a little bit of the sleeve pop out from under for a layered look. I recommend picking up a white, black and striped basic.
jeggings or leggings
I love jeans, but when it comes to Fall essentials my most worn pants during Fall are jeggings or leggings. I prefer tighter pants because it looks better with boots and booties. My favorite pair of jeggings are from Old Navy. SIze down if you want them to really suck you in and get your normal size if you want a comfier fit. My favorite leggings worth the splurge is Lululemon Align leggings. The one pair I have is the one I always reach for because they feel like second skin and I never have to adjust them.
cargo vest or jacket
I’ve had my green olive vest for 5 years and it’s still going strong in my Fall wardrobe. This year I picked up a blush jacket version to throw on for errands and casual looks
cozy layering pieces
Adding layers is a must for Fall. You can take them off during the day when it’s warmer and throw them on in the mornings and evenings when it cools off. My favorite layering pieces are ponchos and puffer vests. I get more wear out of puffer vests because I can wear them to work, so if you’re torn between one or the other I would go with a vest. I recommend sizing down to let more of your top underneath show. Don’t worry about zipping it up unless that’s how you prefer to wear it. I’ve talked about this wrap a few times, I’m clearly obsessed! It feels like a blanket but still hangs very nice. Here are some of my favorite ponchos and vests.
