Thank you to Clarisonic and HerCampus Media for sponsoring this post!

Even in my late 20’s I still suffer from hormonal acne around my chin that causes a huge insecurity every month. I changed up my skincare routine and I wanted to talk about three new additions that has significantly cleared up my hormonal acne. See the before and after pictures below to see the transformation!

Invest in the right skin care tool

I tried the Clarisonic Mia Acne Starter Kit for 10 days and I can’t wait to share the results with you! I was hesitant to use the Clarisonic cleansing brush because I have sensitive skin. Many people think it exfoliates, but that is actually a myth! The Clarisonic brush is gentle enough to use twice a day, even for those of us with sensitive skin.

How does it work? This Clarisonic uses sonic motion to deep clean your pores 6 times better than cleaning with your hands, flushing out more makeup, sunscreen, and pollutants to more effectively cleanse the skin. The bristles of a Clarisonic cleansing brush head oscillate, gently flexing the skin and flushing water and cleanser into pores. This sonic cleansing process removes the dirt, oil and debris that ages your skin and causes breakouts. I tested two different brush heads throughout the 10 days. I think it’s good to have a few brush head options to target the type of cleanse you need. The radiant brush head is made with extra fine bristles that felt like a luxurious spa treatment, and I found myself using it the majority of the 10 days. The acne brush head is more plush and is good for sensitive, oily, and acne-prone skin. I used this brush every few days to get what felt like a deeper clean.

After just 7 days using the Clarisonic Mia, I noticed my skin felt softer and smoother. You can also see how well it cleared up my hormonal acne in the before and after pictures below.

Quick How To: Wet your skin and Clarisonic brush head. Apply cleanser and turn on your device. Gently move the brush head in small circular motions, letting it glide over your skin vs pressing down firmly. The device will automatically shut off after 1 minute.

Use the right skincare products

Since you’re cleansing with the Clarisonic, the products you use after absorb more, making them more effective!

I used the Clarisonic Pore and Blemish Gel Cleanser morning and night after removing my makeup for 10 days. The cleanser contains salicylic acid to remove dead skill cells and fight acne, but doesn’t dry you out like benzoyl peroxide products do. It’s a better option for those with sensitive skin because it’s also has anti-inflammatory properties.

I added this toner to my routine nightly and it has also been really effective. I focus it along my chin where I breakout and blend out from there. This product is pricey, but considering I only use a half pump it will last a long time. I believe this toner is effective because it has Manuka, a member of the tea tree family. More on that next.

Quick Fix for Hormonal Acne

If you’re looking for a quick fix to a current breakout, my go-to is using tea tree essential oil. Yes, I have seen overnight results myself when using this as a spot treatment. Just one drop on a cotton swab at night is the most effective spot treatment I’ve used. Tea tree is a natural antifungal and antibacterial essential oil, exactly what you need to spot treat acne breakouts. Most spot treatments contain alcohol to dry out blemishes, an ingredient I always try to avoid in skin and beauty products.
