It’s that time of year again, swimsuit season! I know just how daunting it can be to try to find the perfect bathing suits for the summer season. It’s worse than trying to find the perfect pair of jeans. Not to mention, it seems that there is less and less fabric each year, making the challenge all that more complicated. But I’m about to put your mind at ease. I’ve scoured the internet and found the best swimsuits of 2021! I’m including both one pieces and bikinis in this complete roundup, and all were independently selected by me. I also discuss some popular brands of affordable and high-end, designer swimwear.
The Best Swimsuits of 2021
There are so many different swimsuit brands to choose from. They all range in price and style, and sometimes it’s hard to sift through them all. Below are some of the most popular brands for purchasing affordable swimwear.
Popular Brands for Affordable Swimwear
Aerie is a great option for affordable swimwear that’s high-quality, on-trend and size inclusive. I love that they have models of different sizes to see how the swimsuit would look on different body types. Aerie is so invested in helping you find the perfect suit to fit your wants and needs that they have a swimsuit 101 page explaining the different styles of suits they offer. They introduced some retro-inspired designs into their swimwear this year too.
Cupshe is another popular brand for affordable swimwear with most of their suits being $35 or under. You can purchase this brand through their website and also they also have a pretty big selection on Amazon. They too are a size-inclusive brand with size selections up to 4x.
H&M has been a long-time favorite of mine for affordable, on-trend clothing. And their swimwear is no exception. I love that this brand is aiming for all of their products to be made from sustainably-sourced materials such organic cotton by 2030, which includes their swimwear. So if you’re looking to be a bit more eco-friendly when it comes to fashion, look for the green hangtag throughout their website.
I couldn’t leave out Target in this roundup of affordable swimwear retailers. Ever since I can remember, Target has always had a wide selection of styles and prints of swimwear to fit any style. Their sizes range in XS to 4X, and offer a great price point for the quality of the suit.
Below I rounded up some of the cute one piece swimsuits I’ve been eyeing. I love the swimsuits this year with the belts. They’re a great option to wear when you need to go from the beach to brunch in a flash. Just throw on a sarong and you’re good to go. I also think the color block swimwear options are beautiful, like the one in the collage below with the pinks and whites. It’s a pretty way to wear pops of color without it looking too busy.
best one piece swimsuits
With Baby J on the way, I have a feeling one pieces are going to be my jam this summer! To avoid investing in maternity swimsuits, I plan on sizing up one from my normal to accommodate the growing bump. I love that one pieces have made such a huge comeback. They are perfect for those days when you need a little extra coverage!
I’m wearing a medium in all the swimsuits below, and they all fit my 24-week bump! All the swimsuits below are from Cupshe, which as I said before are known for their affordability and on-trend styles. I was very impressed with the quality and how comfortable I felt in these swimsuits.
First is this adorable solid black, deep v-neck one piece. The mesh scalloped edges give a pretty feminine detail and like that it has thicker straps, so you feel supported. I also think the booty coverage is excellent.
The floral one-piece has the most beautiful summer time colors. I love the high-neck with the keyhole cutout. It has a scallop trim on the sides and crisscross straps in the back. This would be a great option for a variety of different body types too.
This ruffle bandeau bikini with high-waisted bottoms gives you almost the coverage of a one piece without being a one piece. I’ve always loved mixing and matching bikini bottoms and bikini tops too. So, I plan on doing that with this one. I love the ruffle detail on the top and also has it all along the straps. I feel nice and secure in this.
The last swimsuit is this peach solid striped one-piece swimsuit. I love the pop of color the peach gives the look, and it has adjustable shoulder straps for the perfect fit. All four of these swimsuits are under $30, on-trend and great quality for the price.
I just got in this adorable belted polka dot one piece that is one of the cutest suits I’ve seen this season! I got a size medium, and it’s lightly padded. I styled it here with some of my favorite vacation accessories, including this adorable pom pom straw bag. For a roundup of the best summer straw bags, you don’t want to miss this post here. If you’re needing to go from the beach straight to lunch or shopping, throw a flowy white coverup over the top of this swimsuit for an effortlessly chic look.
They recreated one of my favorite one piece swimsuits from last year and they also make it in maternity for you moms to be! I can still fit in the medium right now, and I love the ruffle detail on the shoulder. It’s fully lined, and has an adorable square back detail. You can actually pull it off the shoulder or wear the straps up on your shoulders. The polyester and polyamide content of the suit is recycled. Tory Burch look for less sandals are under $35, but I recommend sizing up a half size.
best two piece swimsuits
When it comes to finding the perfect two-piece swimsuit, I always look for ones that offer great support. I want to make sure everything stays in its right place, but I don’t want to sacrifice style. I find that some are either too cheeky, too high-cut or just not enough material in general on them. But all of these options below are a perfect blend of comfort and style. And they are all very affordable too!
This two piece suit runs small so I would suggest sizing up! I got a medium and it felt snug in my ribcage, but it’s very supportive so that’s a plus!
Styling Your Favorite Swimsuit for the Beach
When planning your next pool day or beach vacation, don’t forget about your summer essentials. Mine are always a great sunhat, my Tory Burch Miller Sandals (read my review on those here), my favorite Karen Walker sunglasses and a great coverup!
Popular Brands for High-End Swimwear
If you’re looking for a more high-end swimwear brand to shop or you want to invest in a designer suit, here are a few brands I’d recommend.
Summersalt is known for the high-quality material and eye catching, color blocking. Once you see a Summersalt suit in person, you understand the hype. I love that many of their suits have built-in pads, so they’re not constantly falling out in the washer or dryer. They also offer a longer torso option for their one pieces, which is nice if you have a tough time with the fit of some one pieces.
Frankies Bikinis is a designer-inspired swimwear brand. The founder is a Malibu-native, and seeks inspiration from high-fashion runways. There are bikinis added daily to their website, so be sure to check back often for new styles.
Andrea Iyamah is a fashion brand created by Nigerian fashion designer Andrea Dumebi Iyamah. The brand takes inspiration from ethnic cultures and scenes of nature. The brand’s suits have a modern twist with timeless silhouettes, which delivers a truly magical work of art.
Jade Swim is a minimalist and sustainable swimwear line that aims to deliver swimwear that easily transitions from beach to night. The brand uses fabrics made from ECONYL, using 100 percent regenerated nylon. You won’t find wild and crazy patterns in their swimwear line. But there’s a reason for it. They only offer solid-colored fabrics because it doesn’t require excessive water usage as it does to create a pattern.
